Seats and luggage: plan both
In a 7 seat SUV such as the Mitsubishi Outlander or Toyota Highlander, the third row folds out of the boot. With all seats in use there is room for a few soft bags only. For six or seven adults with suitcases, take the Mitsubishi Delica D:5 or the Hyundai H-1.
Mountains or cities?
The Delica has four-wheel drive and high ground clearance, so it handles Kazbegi, Svaneti and gravel valleys. The H-1 is rear-wheel drive and best on paved roads in the warmer months. The 7 seat Land Cruiser Prado and Pajero combine space with real off-road ability.
Travelling with children
Child seats and boosters cost 10 GEL a day each. Tick the option on the booking form and write the ages of the children in the comments, so the right seats are fitted before handover.
Minivan rental questions
Which car fits 7 people and their luggage?
The Hyundai H-1 (9 seats) or the Mitsubishi Delica D:5 (7 seats). Both keep space for suitcases behind the last row. In 7 seat SUVs the luggage space with all seats up is small.
Can I drive a minivan to Kazbegi or Svaneti?
Yes in the Delica, which has four-wheel drive. The H-1 is fine on the paved road to Kazbegi in summer but is not the right choice for snow or gravel.
Do I need a special licence for the 9 seat van?
No. A normal category B licence covers vehicles with up to 8 passenger seats plus the driver, which includes the 9 seat Hyundai H-1.
Is there a deposit for minivans?
The Delica, H-1, Vito, Sienna and Carnival have no deposit. The 7 seat Land Cruiser Prado, Lexus GX and Pajero have a refundable deposit of 300 GEL, and the Mercedes V-Class a higher one shown on its page.
