About the Hyundai H-1
The Hyundai H-1, also sold as the Starex, carries the most people of any car you can drive yourself here: nine seats, room for seven large suitcases and a 2.5 diesel engine that uses about 9.5 L per 100 km. Sliding side doors make loading easy in tight parking spots.
It is the right call for a group of eight or nine flying into Tbilisi, a wedding party, or two families sharing one vehicle on the 370 km drive to Batumi. Kakheti and a summer trip to Kazbegi are fine. As a rear-wheel-drive van approved for paved roads only, it does not go on gravel tracks, and winter mountain snow is the wrong place for it; book an AWD SUV for that part of the trip.
Tip: the van is long and boxy, so park outside the narrow lanes of Old Tbilisi and Sighnaghi and walk in.

Hyundai H-1: questions and answers
How much does it cost to rent a Hyundai H-1 in Tbilisi?
The Hyundai H-1 costs 210 GEL a day for 1 to 3 days, 200 GEL a day for 4 to 7 days, 189 GEL for 8 to 14 days and 179 GEL for 15 days or more. Unlimited mileage, basic insurance (CDW) and delivery to Tbilisi, Kutaisi or Batumi airport are included, and you pay at pickup.
Can I drive the Hyundai H-1 to Kazbegi, Gudauri or Svaneti?
Yes in the warm months: the roads to Kazbegi (Stepantsminda) and Mestia are paved. In winter, when the Jvari Pass and Gudauri can be under snow, choose an AWD or 4x4 car instead. The Hyundai H-1 is not made for gravel valleys such as Truso or Juta.
How many people and suitcases fit in the Hyundai H-1?
The Hyundai H-1 has 9 seats and 4 doors. With all seats in use the boot takes about 7 large suitcases plus small bags. For bigger groups see our minivans and 7 seat cars.
Is there a deposit for the Hyundai H-1?
No. The Hyundai H-1 has no security deposit and nothing is blocked on your card. You pay the rental at pickup, in cash (GEL, USD, EUR) or by card.
How much fuel does the Hyundai H-1 use?
About 9.5 litres per 100 km with its 2.5 diesel engine. The fuel policy is same to same: you receive the car with a full tank and return it full.
Where can I pick up the Hyundai H-1?
At Tbilisi, Kutaisi or Batumi airport, where we meet you in the arrivals hall, or at your hotel in Tbilisi or Batumi. Delivery is free; returning the car in another city has a fixed one-way fee shown in the booking summary.
Do I need a special licence to drive the 9 seat Hyundai H-1?
No. A standard category B car licence covers vehicles with up to 8 passenger seats plus the driver, which is exactly what the 9 seat H-1 is. The usual rules apply: the driver must be at least 21 years old with a licence held for at least one year. If your licence is not printed in Latin letters, bring an International Driving Permit as well.
Hyundai H-1 or Mitsubishi Delica D:5: which minivan should my group rent?
Take the H-1 for eight or nine people with lots of luggage on paved roads, and the Delica D:5 for up to seven people who want four-wheel drive for snow or gravel valleys. The H-1 is a rear-wheel-drive diesel van approved for paved roads only, so it should stay out of winter mountain snow. The Delica has less room but goes much further off the asphalt.
