The Mitsubishi Outlander is one of the few compact SUVs with seven seats. It has a 2.4 petrol engine, all-wheel drive and fuel use of about 8.5 L per 100 km. With every seat in use the boot is small, but fold the third row into the floor and it takes three large suitcases.
It suits five travellers with luggage on a long trip, or a family of seven on shorter outings from a base. Consider an Outlander rental for Kazbegi in summer or winter, a ski weekend in Gudauri, or the drive from Kutaisi up to Mestia. Like other AWD SUVs, it should keep off rough gravel valleys, which need low range.

Choose the Outlander for five travellers with luggage or a family whose children use the third row, and the Toyota Highlander when six or seven adults travel together. The Highlander is larger, with a roomier third row, more luggage space and a stronger V6 for long climbs. The Outlander costs less per day and uses less fuel, and both have all-wheel drive for mountain roads.
Is the rental Mitsubishi Outlander the plug-in hybrid PHEV version?
No. Ours is the petrol Outlander with a 2.4 engine, an automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive, so there is nothing to charge: you simply fill it with petrol and return it at the same level. It also keeps the seven seats that make it useful for families, which the plug-in version of this generation does not offer, since that model has five seats only.
