About the Mazda CX-5

The Mazda CX-5 is a five-seat SUV with a 2.5 petrol engine, an automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive that sends power to the rear wheels when the road turns slippery. It takes three large suitcases and uses about 9.0 L per 100 km. Mazda tunes its cars for precise steering, and on a twisting road the CX-5 feels closer to a sedan than most SUVs do.

That makes it a pleasure on Georgia's mountain roads: the hairpins of the Georgian Military Highway up to Gudauri and Kazbegi, the road from Zugdidi to Mestia, or the long run west to Kutaisi and Batumi. In winter the all-wheel drive is a real help on snow. Like other AWD SUVs, it is not approved for gravel valleys such as Truso and Juta, which need a car from our 4x4 range.

Tip: if fuel cost matters on a long loop, the Toyota RAV4 hybrid costs the same per day, uses far less fuel and takes one more suitcase.

Mazda CX-5: questions and answers

How much does it cost to rent a Mazda CX-5 in Tbilisi?

The Mazda CX-5 costs 145 GEL a day for 1 to 3 days, 138 GEL a day for 4 to 7 days, 131 GEL for 8 to 14 days and 123 GEL for 15 days or more. Unlimited mileage, basic insurance (CDW) and delivery to Tbilisi, Kutaisi or Batumi airport are included, and you pay at pickup.

Can I drive the Mazda CX-5 to Kazbegi, Gudauri or Svaneti?

Yes. With all-wheel drive the Mazda CX-5 suits the Georgian Military Highway to Kazbegi and Gudauri, the road to Mestia and the road from Mestia to Ushguli, in summer and in winter. Rough gravel valleys such as Truso and Juta need a 4x4.

How many people and suitcases fit in the Mazda CX-5?

The Mazda CX-5 has 5 seats and 5 doors. With all seats in use the boot takes about 3 large suitcases plus small bags. For bigger groups see our minivans and 7 seat cars.

Is there a deposit for the Mazda CX-5?

No. The Mazda CX-5 has no security deposit and nothing is blocked on your card. You pay the rental at pickup, in cash (GEL, USD, EUR) or by card.

How much fuel does the Mazda CX-5 use?

About 9 litres per 100 km with its 2.5 petrol engine. The fuel policy is same to same: you receive the car with a full tank and return it full.

Where can I pick up the Mazda CX-5?

At Tbilisi, Kutaisi or Batumi airport, where we meet you in the arrivals hall, or at your hotel in Tbilisi or Batumi. Delivery is free; returning the car in another city has a fixed one-way fee shown in the booking summary.

Mazda CX-5 or Toyota RAV4: which AWD SUV should I rent?

Pick the CX-5 if you enjoy driving and want a conventional petrol SUV that feels sharp on winding mountain roads, and the Toyota RAV4 hybrid if fuel cost and luggage space come first. They cost the same per day and are approved for the same routes, including Kazbegi and Gudauri in winter. The RAV4 uses about 5.8 L per 100 km against 9.0 L, and takes four large suitcases instead of three.

Mazda CX-5 or Subaru Forester: which is better for Georgia's mountain roads?

Both are five seat AWD SUVs with a 2.5 petrol engine, room for three large suitcases and approval for mountain routes. The Subaru Forester drives all four wheels all the time, has big windows and costs a little less per day, which makes it a calm choice for snow. The CX-5 has the more refined cabin and the sharper steering, so it suits drivers who enjoy long days on winding roads.
