About the Land Rover Defender
The Land Rover Defender is built for roads where the asphalt ends: a 3.0 turbo diesel engine, an automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive with a low-range gear. It seats five, takes four large suitcases and uses about 9.5 L per 100 km, a modest figure for a 4x4 of its ability. The upright body and high ground clearance give a commanding view on narrow mountain tracks. Drivers must be aged 25 or older with a licence held for at least 3 years.
It is approved for gravel valleys as well as mountain roads: drive the Georgian Military Highway to Kazbegi in any season, then continue along the Truso and Juta valleys, or explore the side valleys of Svaneti beyond Mestia. Tusheti over the Abano Pass is possible only with our written permission. For other cars that go this far, see our 4x4 range.
Tip: gravel valleys are slow going, so allow plenty of time, start with a full tank and use the low range on steep sections; for seven seats, the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 covers the same roads.

Can I drive the Land Rover Defender to Kazbegi, Gudauri or Svaneti?
Yes. The Land Rover Defender is approved for mountain roads in every season and for gravel tracks such as the Truso and Juta valleys. Tusheti (Abano Pass) is allowed only with our written permission, and Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region are always excluded.
How many people and suitcases fit in the Land Rover Defender?
The Land Rover Defender has 5 seats and 5 doors. With all seats in use the boot takes about 4 large suitcases plus small bags. For bigger groups see our minivans and 7 seat cars.
Is there a deposit for the Land Rover Defender?
Yes, a refundable deposit of 1500 GEL is paid at pickup and returned when the car comes back in the same condition. The rental is also paid at pickup, in cash or by card; nothing is charged when you book.
How much fuel does the Land Rover Defender use?
About 9.5 litres per 100 km with its 3.0 turbo diesel engine. The fuel policy is same to same: you receive the car with a full tank and return it full.
Where can I pick up the Land Rover Defender?
At Tbilisi, Kutaisi or Batumi airport, where we meet you in the arrivals hall, or at your hotel in Tbilisi or Batumi. Delivery is free; returning the car in another city has a fixed one-way fee shown in the booking summary.
Can I drive the Land Rover Defender to the Truso and Juta valleys?
Yes. The Defender is approved for gravel tracks such as the Truso and Juta valleys near Kazbegi, and its low range gearing helps on steep, loose sections. Both valleys are best visited from late spring to autumn, when the tracks are dry and passable. Tusheti over the Abano Pass is allowed only with our written permission, and Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region are always excluded; see our rental terms.
Land Rover Defender or Mercedes G-Class: which off-road icon should I rent?
Both have four-wheel drive with low range and are approved for Kazbegi in any season and for gravel valleys such as Truso and Juta. Choose the Mercedes-Benz G-Class for its V8 and its presence at a wedding. Choose the Defender for practicality: it costs much less per day, takes four large suitcases against three, and its diesel uses far less fuel, about 9.5 L per 100 km against 14.5 L.
