About the BMW 7 Series
The BMW 7 Series is a full-size luxury sedan with a 3.0 turbo petrol engine, an automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive, which BMW calls xDrive. It seats five, takes three large suitcases and uses about 9.0 L per 100 km. The all-wheel drive is what sets it apart from the rear-wheel-drive executive sedans: it keeps its composure on wet and snowy roads.
Business travellers use it for meetings across Tbilisi, or sit in the back while our driver handles the traffic for 150 GEL a day. Because it is approved for mountain roads, it can also take you to Gudauri for a ski weekend or up the Georgian Military Highway to Kazbegi in winter, where the rear-wheel-drive sedans in our luxury range should not go. Gravel valleys such as Truso remain off limits. To drive it yourself, you must be aged 25 or older with a licence held for at least 3 years.
Tip: all-wheel drive helps you pull away on snow but does not help you stop sooner, so leave generous distance on the Gudauri road; for gravel valleys, choose the Toyota Land Cruiser 300.

Where you can drive it
Approved for paved roads and mountain routes such as Kazbegi, Gudauri, Mestia and Ushguli in summer. With all-wheel drive it is a good choice in winter too. Rough gravel tracks need a 4x4 with low range.

Yes. With all-wheel drive the BMW 7 Series suits the Georgian Military Highway to Kazbegi and Gudauri, the road to Mestia and the road from Mestia to Ushguli, in summer and in winter. Rough gravel valleys such as Truso and Juta are better done in a 4x4.

Its all-wheel drive gives steady grip on wet and snowy streets in Tbilisi and on the paved mountain road to Gudauri and Kazbegi, where the rear-wheel-drive S-Class and E-Class are not the right cars. Drive gently, leave extra distance and check that the Jvari Pass is open on the day, since the road can close for hours after heavy snowfall.
BMW 7 Series or Mercedes E-Class: is the bigger sedan worth it?
It is worth it for VIP guests, long journeys in the back seat and winter trips; for a business trip on your own, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is enough. The 7 Series has a larger cabin with more rear legroom and all-wheel drive, so it is approved for mountain roads such as Gudauri. The E-Class is rear-wheel drive, costs less per day and uses less fuel, and both take three large suitcases.
