About the Subaru Outback
The Subaru Outback is an estate car with the ground clearance of an SUV: a 2.5 petrol engine, an automatic gearbox and Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel drive, which powers all four wheels all the time. It seats five, takes three large suitcases in a long, flat load space and uses about 8.4 L per 100 km. On the road it feels more like a comfortable car than a tall SUV.
It shines on long days at the wheel: the run from Tbilisi to Batumi, then up from Zugdidi to Mestia and, in summer, on to Ushguli, or a winter trip to Gudauri and Kazbegi. The full-time all-wheel drive keeps it steady on wet hairpins and snow. It is not a 4x4 with low range, so leave gravel valleys such as Truso and Juta to the off-road cars in our 4x4 range.
Tip: if you prefer a higher seat for the mountain views, the Subaru Forester has the same 2.5 engine and all-wheel drive in a taller SUV body.

Subaru Outback: questions and answers
How much does it cost to rent a Subaru Outback in Tbilisi?
The Subaru Outback costs 120 GEL a day for 1 to 3 days, 114 GEL a day for 4 to 7 days, 108 GEL for 8 to 14 days and 102 GEL for 15 days or more. Unlimited mileage, basic insurance (CDW) and delivery to Tbilisi, Kutaisi or Batumi airport are included, and you pay at pickup.
Can I drive the Subaru Outback to Kazbegi, Gudauri or Svaneti?
Yes. With all-wheel drive the Subaru Outback suits the Georgian Military Highway to Kazbegi and Gudauri, the road to Mestia and the road from Mestia to Ushguli, in summer and in winter. Rough gravel valleys such as Truso and Juta need a 4x4.
How many people and suitcases fit in the Subaru Outback?
The Subaru Outback has 5 seats and 5 doors. With all seats in use the boot takes about 3 large suitcases plus small bags. For bigger groups see our minivans and 7 seat cars.
Is there a deposit for the Subaru Outback?
No. The Subaru Outback has no security deposit and nothing is blocked on your card. You pay the rental at pickup, in cash (GEL, USD, EUR) or by card.
How much fuel does the Subaru Outback use?
About 8.4 litres per 100 km with its 2.5 petrol engine. The fuel policy is same to same: you receive the car with a full tank and return it full.
Where can I pick up the Subaru Outback?
At Tbilisi, Kutaisi or Batumi airport, where we meet you in the arrivals hall, or at your hotel in Tbilisi or Batumi. Delivery is free; returning the car in another city has a fixed one-way fee shown in the booking summary.
Is the Subaru Outback an estate car or an SUV?
Both, in a way. The Outback is built as an estate car, with a long boot and a lower roof than an SUV, but it has raised ground clearance and Subaru's full-time all-wheel drive. That is why we list it with our SUVs and approve it for the same mountain routes: Kazbegi, Gudauri, Mestia and Ushguli. It is still not a 4x4 with low range, so gravel valleys such as Truso and Juta are off limits.
Subaru Outback or Subaru Forester: which suits a long Georgia road trip?
Both have a 2.5 petrol engine, full-time all-wheel drive, five seats and room for three large suitcases, and fuel use is almost the same. The Outback rides lower and more smoothly, which makes long highway days such as Tbilisi to Batumi more relaxed, and it costs a little less per day. The Subaru Forester gives you a higher seat, bigger windows for the mountain views and a more upright cabin.
