About the Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage is a compact SUV with a 2.4 petrol engine, an automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive that sends power to the rear wheels when the front ones need help. It seats five, holds three large suitcases and uses about 9.0 L per 100 km. The higher seating position gives you a better view through the bends.

Svaneti is where it earns its keep. Mestia is about 470 km from Tbilisi, so starting from Kutaisi airport or Batumi saves you several hours on the road. In summer the Sportage carries on from Mestia to Ushguli, and in winter it is a confident choice for Gudauri or Kazbegi. Deeply rutted side valleys and river crossings are a job for a 4x4 with low range.

Tip: the road up from Zugdidi climbs for a long way, so start it with a full tank and in daylight.

Kia Sportage: questions and answers

How much does it cost to rent a Kia Sportage in Tbilisi?

The Kia Sportage costs 105 GEL a day for 1 to 3 days, 100 GEL a day for 4 to 7 days, 95 GEL for 8 to 14 days and 89 GEL for 15 days or more. Unlimited mileage, basic insurance (CDW) and delivery to Tbilisi, Kutaisi or Batumi airport are included, and you pay at pickup.

Can I drive the Kia Sportage to Kazbegi, Gudauri or Svaneti?

Yes. With all-wheel drive the Kia Sportage suits the Georgian Military Highway to Kazbegi and Gudauri, the road to Mestia and the road from Mestia to Ushguli, in summer and in winter. Rough gravel valleys such as Truso and Juta are better done in a 4x4.

How many people and suitcases fit in the Kia Sportage?

The Kia Sportage has 5 seats and 5 doors. With all seats in use the boot takes about 3 large suitcases plus small bags. For bigger groups see our minivans and 7 seat cars.

Is there a deposit for the Kia Sportage?

No. The Kia Sportage has no security deposit and nothing is blocked on your card. You pay the rental at pickup, in cash (GEL, USD, EUR) or by card.

How much fuel does the Kia Sportage use?

About 9 litres per 100 km with its 2.4 petrol engine. The fuel policy is same to same: you receive the car with a full tank and return it full.

Where can I pick up the Kia Sportage?

At Tbilisi, Kutaisi or Batumi airport, where we meet you in the arrivals hall, or at your hotel in Tbilisi or Batumi. Delivery is free; returning the car in another city has a fixed one-way fee shown in the booking summary.

Kia Sportage or Hyundai Tucson: what is the difference for a Georgia trip?

Very little in size and ability: the two are close relatives built on shared engineering, so choose by engine and model year. The Sportage has the larger 2.4 petrol engine, which helps on long climbs with a full car, while the Hyundai Tucson is a newer model year with a 2.0 engine and slightly lower fuel use. Both are five seat AWD SUVs with room for three large suitcases.

Do I need an all-wheel-drive SUV like the Sportage in Georgia in summer?

Not for paved roads alone: in summer a sedan reaches Kakheti, Kutaisi, Batumi and even Kazbegi without trouble. The Sportage earns its place when your plan includes long mountain roads such as the climb to Mestia, a trip outside the summer months when snow is possible up high, or simply a wish for higher seating and more ground clearance on rough village roads.
