About the Kia Optima

The Kia Optima, also known as the Kia K5, is a midsize sedan with a 2.4 petrol engine, front-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox. It seats five, takes three large suitcases and uses about 8.4 L per 100 km. As a midsize car it gives rear passengers more legroom than a compact sedan, which counts on a full day at the wheel.

Its comfort shows on long paved routes: the drive from Tbilisi to Batumi, a loop through Kakheti with stops in Sighnaghi and Telavi, or a business trip between Tbilisi and Kutaisi. Pick it up at Tbilisi airport and leave it at Batumi airport on a one-way rental. The Optima is approved for paved roads only, so keep it off gravel tracks and choose an AWD car for winter mountain passes.

Tip: the Hyundai Sonata is the Optima's close relative, with the same engine size and boot space, so it is the natural swap if the Optima is booked on your dates.

Kia Optima: questions and answers

How much does it cost to rent a Kia Optima in Tbilisi?

The Kia Optima costs 95 GEL a day for 1 to 3 days, 90 GEL a day for 4 to 7 days, 86 GEL for 8 to 14 days and 81 GEL for 15 days or more. Unlimited mileage, basic insurance (CDW) and delivery to Tbilisi, Kutaisi or Batumi airport are included, and you pay at pickup.

Can I drive the Kia Optima to Kazbegi, Gudauri or Svaneti?

Yes in the warm months: the roads to Kazbegi (Stepantsminda) and Mestia are paved. In winter, when the Jvari Pass and Gudauri can be under snow, choose an AWD or 4x4 car instead. The Kia Optima is not made for gravel valleys such as Truso or Juta.

How many people and suitcases fit in the Kia Optima?

The Kia Optima has 5 seats and 4 doors. With all seats in use the boot takes about 3 large suitcases plus small bags. For bigger groups see our minivans and 7 seat cars.

Is there a deposit for the Kia Optima?

No. The Kia Optima has no security deposit and nothing is blocked on your card. You pay the rental at pickup, in cash (GEL, USD, EUR) or by card.

How much fuel does the Kia Optima use?

About 8.4 litres per 100 km with its 2.4 petrol engine. The fuel policy is same to same: you receive the car with a full tank and return it full.

Where can I pick up the Kia Optima?

At Tbilisi, Kutaisi or Batumi airport, where we meet you in the arrivals hall, or at your hotel in Tbilisi or Batumi. Delivery is free; returning the car in another city has a fixed one-way fee shown in the booking summary.

Kia Optima or Hyundai Sonata: what is the difference?

Very little under the skin. The two are close relatives from the same group, each with a 2.4 petrol engine, front-wheel drive, five seats and room for three large suitcases, and both are approved for paved roads. The Hyundai Sonata costs a little less per day and uses slightly less fuel, while the Optima has the sportier look. Choose by price, or by whichever is free on your dates.

Kia Optima or Toyota Camry hybrid: is the hybrid worth the higher price?

It depends on how far you drive. The Toyota Camry hybrid uses about 5.0 L per 100 km against the Optima's 8.4 L, but it costs noticeably more per day. On a city stay or a short trip, the Optima is the cheaper choice. On a long loop around Georgia, the Camry's fuel saving narrows the gap, and it adds a quieter ride at low speed. Both seat five and take three large suitcases.
