About the Toyota Prius

The Toyota Prius is a self-charging hybrid: the 1.8 petrol engine and the electric motor share the work on their own, so there is no cable and no charging stop. It uses about 4.5 L per 100 km, seats five and takes two large suitcases under the hatch. That mix makes a Prius rental the sensible default for a first road trip in Georgia.

It is at home on every paved road: Tbilisi to Batumi (about 370 km, mostly on the E60 highway), the wine villages of Kakheti, or a summer day on the Georgian Military Highway to Kazbegi. It is not built for gravel, so leave the Truso valley to a 4x4 such as the Mitsubishi Delica D:5. When snow covers the Jvari Pass in winter, an AWD car is the safer pick.

Tip: the hybrid saves the most fuel in stop-and-go city traffic, and on the long descent from the Jvari Pass the electric motor recharges the battery as you slow down.

Toyota Prius: questions and answers

How much does it cost to rent a Toyota Prius in Tbilisi?

The Toyota Prius costs 80 GEL a day for 1 to 3 days, 76 GEL a day for 4 to 7 days, 72 GEL for 8 to 14 days and 68 GEL for 15 days or more. Unlimited mileage, basic insurance (CDW) and delivery to Tbilisi, Kutaisi or Batumi airport are included, and you pay at pickup.

Can I drive the Toyota Prius to Kazbegi, Gudauri or Svaneti?

Yes in the warm months: the roads to Kazbegi (Stepantsminda) and Mestia are paved. In winter, when the Jvari Pass and Gudauri can be under snow, choose an AWD or 4x4 car instead. The Toyota Prius is not made for gravel valleys such as Truso or Juta.

How many people and suitcases fit in the Toyota Prius?

The Toyota Prius has 5 seats and 5 doors. With all seats in use the boot takes about 2 large suitcases plus small bags. For bigger groups see our minivans and 7 seat cars.

Is there a deposit for the Toyota Prius?

No. The Toyota Prius has no security deposit and nothing is blocked on your card. You pay the rental at pickup, in cash (GEL, USD, EUR) or by card.

How much fuel does the Toyota Prius use?

About 4.5 litres per 100 km with its 1.8 hybrid engine. The fuel policy is same to same: you receive the car with a full tank and return it full.

Where can I pick up the Toyota Prius?

At Tbilisi, Kutaisi or Batumi airport, where we meet you in the arrivals hall, or at your hotel in Tbilisi or Batumi. Delivery is free; returning the car in another city has a fixed one-way fee shown in the booking summary.

Is the Toyota Prius a good choice for a long road trip across Georgia?

Yes, for a road trip on paved roads the Prius is one of the most sensible cars you can rent in Georgia. The hybrid system saves the most fuel in towns and on rolling roads, and every rental includes unlimited mileage, so a long loop through Kakheti, Kutaisi and Batumi stays cheap to run. For gravel valleys or snowy winter passes, switch to an AWD SUV such as the Toyota RAV4.

Can the Toyota Prius handle Tbilisi's steep and narrow streets?

Yes. The automatic gearbox means no clutch work on hill starts, and the electric motor gives smooth pull from a standstill on the steep lanes of Sololaki and Old Tbilisi. The car is easy to place in narrow streets and tight parking spots. The one thing to watch is the low front bumper: take high kerbs and steep garage ramps slowly and at an angle.
